In one sentence
CalmClick checks links, messages, and error text only on your device. We do not upload, store, sell, or analyze your pasted content on a server.
What CalmClick is
CalmClick is a free website and optional browser extension that explains suspicious links, scam-like messages, and common computer errors in plain English.
Data we do not collect
- We do not collect the links, messages, or error text you paste or right‑click to check.
- We do not require an account, email, or login.
- We do not use advertising trackers, analytics pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.
- We do not sell personal information.
Website
When you use the hosted website, checks run in your browser with local JavaScript. Your pasted content is not sent to CalmClick servers for analysis (there is no analysis backend).
Like any website, the computer or service that hosts the static files may keep standard technical server logs (for example IP address and pages requested). Those logs are for operating the site, not for reading what you paste into the tools.
Optional preference: the “larger text” button may save a simple setting in your browser’s
localStorage so the choice is remembered. That stays on your device.
Protection list updates (optional)
CalmClick can download an updated public pattern file
(rules-latest.json) so new scam tricks can be recognized without you
reinstalling the whole app. That request is a simple download of rules. It does
not include the link, message, or error text you are checking.
Updated lists may be stored in your browser’s localStorage so they work on
the next visit. You can still use CalmClick fully offline with the built-in list.
Local/offline copies do not auto-phone home; use “Update protection lists” when online
if you want the newest patterns.
Browser extension
The CalmClick extension can open a check screen for a link you right‑click or text you select. That content is passed only into the extension’s own pages on your computer so the packaged rules can run. It is not transmitted to CalmClick for storage or remote processing.
Permissions used:
- contextMenus — adds “Check with CalmClick” to the right‑click menu.
- storage — briefly holds the link or text you chose to check so it can open in the checker tab without putting the full text in the page address. Session storage is used when available.
The extension package does not request host permissions to browse the web, read your email, or modify page content. It does not download remote rule files (new patterns ship with extension updates). The separate website may still download a public pattern list as described above.
Offline / local copy
You can download a local copy of CalmClick and open index.html from your computer.
In that mode, nothing needs the internet after the files are saved (except links you choose to open yourself).
This is the most private way to use CalmClick.
Children
CalmClick is a general-purpose safety helper. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
